Alongside his wife, Shanelle, Layne is committed to honoring Hatchet’s rich history while ensuring each guest enjoys an exceptional experience. Together, they’re focused on preserving the lodge’s tradition and carrying forward a legacy defined by remarkable fishing, thoughtful hospitality and lasting memories.

Clay Busby
Clay Busby has been part of Hatchet Lake Lodge for more than a decade, celebrating his 14th season in 2026. He joined the lodge at 18 and quickly developed a deep connection to Hatchet Lake and Canada’s north, along with a passion for fishing and sharing the experience with others. As lodge manager, Clay oversees both on-site operations and off-season reservations, handling every detail, from bookings and travel coordination to guest needs at the lodge, ensuring every stay is effortless and memorable.
