Northern Pike
The most targeted species at Hatchet Lake, the northern pike (Esox lucius) makes a prized catch owing to its aggressive nature and impressive size. Our guides have spent tens of thousands of hours searching, patterning and catching these incredible predators. Join us early in the year to target pike in the shallow warm bays post spawn or later in the year when the fish have moved to the deeper weed beds in search of food and cooler temperatures.
Lake Trout
A giant lake trout (Salvelinus namaycush) is at the top of any experienced angler’s bucket list. Early in summer, these fish cruise shallow sand flats and rocky reefs before moving to deeper, cooler water later in the season. The challenge of pursuing lake trout in pristine environments is what makes landing one so unforgettable.
Walleye
Possibly the most sought-after fish species in Canada, walleye (Sander vitreus) have a beautiful golden colour and a subtle yet distinct bite. With their nocturnal feeding habits and a tendency to congregate in deep, structure-rich areas, walleye are known for being elusive and challenging to catch. Our guides and guests find walleye in the deeper holes along the river, sometimes even mixed in with the pike, which makes for an exciting surprise.
Arctic Grayling
Arctic grayling (Thymallus arcticus), often called the sailfish of the north due to their distinctive sail-like dorsal fins and vibrant, iridescent sheen, are drawn to unique environments like the Corson Rapids. They’re smaller than our other target species but present a rewarding catch, especially for fly anglers, for their willingness to take a variety of flies and do spirited, acrobatic battle with the line.
