Hatchet and Surrounding Lakes

Four lakes, easy access.

From the lodge, guests can fish Hatchet Lake as well as three additional nearby portage lakes, each reached by a short walk, offering great variety and exceptional fishing.

Hatchet Lake

Stretching roughly 12 by 7 miles, Hatchet Lake is fed by the Fond-du-Lac and Thrift Rivers and flows out through the scenic Corson Rapids.

Thrift Lake

Found northeast of Hatchet Lake, Thrift Lake is often fished as a morning excursion, making it a convenient addition to a lodge-based fishing plan.

Corson Lake

Corson Lake offers excellent fly and conventional fishing opportunities, particularly for Arctic grayling in the fast water and walleye and northern pike below the rapids.

Le Drew Lake

Located on the southwest corner of Hatchet Lake, Le Drew Lake offers a quiet, lightly fished experience.

    Our fly-out program delivers truly remote fishing on exclusive lakes, with few boats, diverse water and full days on the water capped by a classic shore lunch.

    Babiche Lake

    Though smaller in size, Babiche Lake is renowned for producing monster northern pike, with lake trout found in deeper water at certain times of year.

    Bentley Lake

    Bentley Lake’s moderate size and varied structure provide a balanced fishing experience while maintaining a sense of isolation that defines many of Hatchet Lake Lodge’s fly-out destinations.

    Charcoal Lake

    One of the larger lakes of our fly-out destinations, Charcoal Lake stretches over 18 miles, offering exceptional fishing for all four Hatchet Lake Grand Slam species.

    Crooked Lake

    Crooked Lake is well suited to anglers who enjoy exploring different types of water throughout the day, as it offers a meandering shoreline, current-influenced areas and varied structure.

    Durrant Lake 

    From the action-packed Crazy Narrows to the chance of encountering the rare silver-phase northern pike, Durrant offers nonstop excitement and outstanding opportunities for both spin and fly anglers.

    Forsyth Lake

    Forsyth Lake is a compact gem offering outstanding northern pike and walleye fishing, with Arctic grayling found farther down the river. Its manageable size allows for quick moves between hotspots.

    Hannah Lake

    A guest favorite known for its exceptional northern pike fishing, Hannah Lake offers a private, memorable fly-out experience for up to six anglers.

    Kernaghan Lake

    One of the smaller and more sheltered fly-out lakes, Kernaghan is well suited to days when wind conditions make larger water less desirable. Walleye fishing is a key feature here, with northern pike also present throughout the lake’s bays and shoreline areas.

    Killock Bay

    Killock Bay is located on the north end of Wollaston Lake, directly east of Hatchet Lake. Its connection to Wollaston Lake provides a big water feel with a wide variety of fishing areas available depending on conditions.

    Kosdaw Lake

    This smaller, river-like lake supports northern pike, walleye, and Arctic grayling. Flowing water, narrow sections, and defined inflows create areas of concentrated activity, making Kosdaw well suited to anglers who enjoy fishing structure influenced by current.

    La Rocque Lake

    La Rocque Lake is a smaller, sheltered fly-out destination best known for excellent walleye fishing, with plenty of northern pike mixed in.

    McRae Bay

    This bay features classic northern pike habitat, including broad weed beds, sheltered pockets and varied shoreline structure. As part of the Wollaston Lake system, McRae Bay offers a big-water setting with protected areas that can fish well under a range of conditions.

    Nordbye Lake

    Sharing a river system with Hannah Lake, Nordbye Lake’s expansive bays, weed beds and deep holes offer outstanding pike fishing throughout the season and excellent late-season opportunities for jigging lake trout.

    Sandy Lake

    Sandy Lake is long and narrow, with concentrated walleye fishing near river inflows, while pike are found throughout the weed beds and bays. Grayling are regularly encountered in current-influenced sections of the system.

    Surprise Lake

    Surprise Lake, also known as Claprock Lake, is one of the smaller fly-out options, with its compact size and defined structure making it well suited to anglers looking for steady walleye action in a relatively sheltered setting.

    Waterfound Bay

    A narrow, river-like lake known for excellent walleye fishing, Waterfound Bay provides strong northern pike action in its shallow bays and weed beds.

      Shore Lunch

      Simple and satisfying. 

      One of the most anticipated moments of each fishing day happens on shore. Using the morning’s fresh catch, your guide will expertly prepare a classic shore lunch over an open fire at a quiet spot on the lake. It’s the perfect mid-day reward for an exciting day of fishing.
